Yana Bibb

Biography:

Yana Bibb is a Swedish-American vocalist and songwriter who blends soulful jazz and groovy blues with a touch of Swedish folk melody.

As the daughter of renowned Blues artist Eric Bibb, the granddaughter of Folk singer Leon Bibb and great-niece to pianist John Lewis of the Modern Jazz Quartet, Yana Bibb’s veins pulsed with music from birth.

“My desire to record and share my music began at the age of 10, after having the opportunity to record my first composition, ‘You’re My Angel,’” Bibb writes in the liner notes to her debut album, Not A Minute Too Late. “It was the beginning of exploring and discovering my own voice and expression – a lifelong quest.”

Receiving her formal training in Jazz Vocal Performance at the City College of New York, Bibb developed a peerless musicianship. Whether singing standards or her own delicate compositions, her musical instincts are right on target, her voice intimate and touching, filled with sincerity and simplicity and without affectation.

She has performed with her trio in renowned venues around the world, from New York’s Metropolitan Room, the Bitter End, Somethin’ Jazz Club and the Living Room to clubs in Germany, Austria, France, the UK and Switzerland.

“Last but certainly not least,” Bibb writes, with the sincerity she exhibits on stage, in the closing of the liner notes to her latest release Afternoon in Paris. “I want to thank you who bought this album, you enable me to do what I love to do the most – sing!”

No stranger to either jazz, soul, folk, or blues, Yana Bibb's aesthetic seduces on every track of this wonderful debut album.

Singing standards or her own delicate compositions, Yana Bibb exudes a likable personality served by a gracious tone of voice and a peerless musicianship.

This is a real discovery and evidence that the Bibb name, passed to her from her folk-singing grandfather Leon Bibb, and blues minstrel Eric Bibb – who both appear on this album – is here to stay.
