Cindy Church, it seems, has always been one of the most distinctive voices in Canada. Vocally she cannot be pigeon holed as a country singer - she would be just as at home with a jazz ballad as she would be with a pop tune, a gospel song, or folk material. But there’s something about the clarity of her voice, the openness with which she addresses a phrase and the feeling that stems from her heart which makes country fans connect to her immediately. This has allowed her the luxury of living a life in music, something she regards as a joyful privilege.

The source of her distinctiveness begins with her upbringing in Bible Hill, Nova Scotia crossed with the 20 years she's lived in Western Canada, first in Edmonton, then Vancouver Island, Turner Valley, south of Calgary and presently Toronto. As she was growing up in the Maritimes, country, pop and folk music filled the house.

Her long background - as Ian Tyson's back up singer and as a member of the Great Western Orchestra - has merged with her current experiences as both a solo artist and as a member of Quartette.
